Subject: Phone charges
(8-17-2018) Something good actually happened on July 16th. I waited a few weeks to confirm it for myself, because it was hard to imagine the memo taped up on the window in the day room was real. It had to be a typo, many of us thought. Nope. It's real. Our 30 minute phone calls cost between 30-50 cents! 10 years ago a call was 10 dollars. A few years ago, following a law suit, the price dropped to 5 dollars. Another legal action drove the price down to 3-4 dollars each. But now, thank God, it is a more affordable price.

For me, the damage is done. Over 10 years of minimal communication, maybe 10-minutes a week with each family member, has created a separation that cannot be repaired. But, I am trying. Making 6 calls a week now, hoping to rebuild our relationships. Only time will tell if this effort is successful.

I am glad something was done right and good for a change. At least future families making calls will benefit.
