I cannot say enough on the positives of this program and how it is helping men to prepare for parole and be successful.

*

Sadly, I have also witnessed an attempt by the "system" to "fix" people. 80% of men that arrive here know it is a privilege to work hard to take advantage of the schooling and support offered.

*

There is this real Democrat theme, that says let's bring in the "worse" inmates. Those are always stealing, hustling, hurting people and we will fix them. It doesn't work like that. A program does not fix a persons heart. By "rewarding" poor behavior and criminal attitudes does not change a person. Someone who is behaving selfishly and criminally in a max or medium prison, then comes here, has no reason to change. They were just rewarded for doing all the criminal things in prison, why should they now think they have to change?

*

The result is that a handful of criminal idiots have triggered a lot of tighter security controls. The stress level has gone up for inmates and staff. Moral and hope has dropped as the staff are quickly trying to assess what went wrong. Meanwhile, the 80% that were working so hard are now reverting back into "prison survival mode". Some officers love it. They want this to fail. They want to go back to standard prison mode.

*

I really admire the Wardens, staff and inmates that are maintaining the focus and keeping the vision to repair a broken prison system, for the sake of our children and our nations future. wdl
