Subject: Wrong attitudes
There is a clash of cultures in this new program of IDOC on both the staff side and the inmate side. There are correctional officers that simply hate being here because they think that "inmates" don't deserve any help. They think and speak in terms of "us and them."
Recently, there was a push for lighter rules and requiring less clutter in the houses. This is all fine... But you could see the pure joy in the eyes of those few officers who want to see this program fail. As they carried out their new mandate to fix things, they were loving the newfound rules that they could enforce with exacting measure and the punishments that they could inflict.
I feel sad for the staff who are trying hard to help this program succeed.
