Subject: Today... I Am Ashamed To Be A Republican
I personally cannot stand the liberal and strong arm government policies of the Democratic party.
Tonight, as I listen to the impeachment hearing statements, I am deeply ashamed to call myself a Republican.
Every single Republican sounds like a parrot of President Trump. Sniveling and whining and attacking every core truth of American ideals. Making stupid comments that make me wish I could slap their faces through the TV and demand a shooting duel. Their voices drip with contempt for truth and justice. Shame on them!
I am severely isolated from outside influences, and I have refuted the idea that President Trump and today's Republican party have ushered in a white nationalist power play. I could never believe that to be possible after all we have suffered and sacrificed as a nation.
I am white and, for a year, I have shuddered inside when other whites defend President Trump in an almost rabid fashion, regardless of the facts. Even my Christian friends (I am also a Christian) who are white have dared to smile when people call President Trump a messiah.
This is a moment of history we are witnessing. The decisions of this impeachment and the 2020 elections will determine the course of America into the next century. Whether we will move forward as a democracy or collapse into anarchy and violence.
I too feel a sense of hopelessness that our governmental system is so fragile that one man, with millions of backers (mostly scared white people), can be upturned so easily and used to such a mockery that reflects more mob tactics than the patriotic ideals my immigrant family raised me to believe and fight for and defend.
I can read the Constitution for myself. I can hear these testimonies with my own ears. And I am left with a sick feeling in my stomach. I am ashamed today to call myself a Republican. I cannot defend the Democrat Party's policies. What do I teach my children to believe about being an American?
May God's will be done.
