Thank you so much for your comments, and for urging others to support Senate Bill 2123.
SB2123 passed the Senate on 3/12/20, was transmitted to the House on 3/16/20, and referred to the House Judiciary B and Corrections Committees on 3/25/20.
The legislature is suspended due to COVID-19; but presumably the House will take up SB2123 whenever they do convene again.
It is worth noting that the House passed House Bill 1377 on 3/12/20. The language of HB1377 is almost identical to the language of SB2123!! HB1377 was transmitted to the Senate on 3/17/20 and presumably will be taken up by the Senate when the legislature is able to safely reconvene.
Since the House did pass House Bill 1377, there's no reason for them not to pass Senate Bill 2123.
Likewise, since the Senate did pass Senate Bill 2123, there's no reason for them not to pass House Bill 1377.
ONLY ONE NEEDS TO PASS!
There are TWO shots are true prison/sentencing reform pending in the Mississippi legislature.
