PART I – COMPLAINT [handwritten]
Re: CLOSURE OF "BOTH" BUILDINGS PROGRAMS/SCHOOL 04/17/12, 3-11 SHIFT
Dear Superintendent Ryan:
Well it started with us being forced out of our chapel and moved into a classroom – relocated to using a child's desk as an altar. Now we are totally denied our Tuesday night Catholic service. Outside volunteers travel many miles and are turned away. The reason: UNDERSTAFFING – It is outrageous to even propose such a fantasy. As a practising Catholic I am outraged, but I will channel that outrage in the proper way: by revealing the failures here.
Tonight, Tuesday April 17, 2012, both the Programs and School buildings were closed. Dan Morse, the high-paid librarian had a nice easy night, but more importantly the Catholic service was shut down. The church is the only, again ONLY, program worth anything here at Shirley, but we get disrespected on a regular. I don't know who the shift commander was on this night, but could it be Steve Kenneway, the guard who had the Union follow around Kathy Dennehy with a giant inflatable rat? There are 2.2 prisoners for each staff member in the DOC, but this joint can not find two guards to open Programs and School. The ship is headed for the rocks.
I ask that you show that you care about our church and issue orders that the prison remain OPEN. I respect your position, but I can not allow the insanity to go unaddressed. From the roof I will shout the failure. Please help us.
Thank you for your time and prayed for intervention.
Respectfully
