Dear Opal

Thank you for the comments, feel free to post as many -- and as often -- as you want. Sorry that this reply is so late, but here where I'm at mail often takes a long route to us. I left a reply for Ellie as well on the June 17, 2012 post that she'd commented on -- if you remember, Anne is supposed to have an "E" at the end of it. Well, really, with or without is fine in American spelling but to be really correct to the name, a girl needs the "E" at the end.

The thing is, most of the naming "rules" depend on location. The same name having so many different variations in so many different places -- each with its own set of rules, background, and gender assignment.

And thank you for approving the children reading and responding to this blog -- they, after all, are the main purpose of its existence. I want them to have SOMETHING of me, even if it's just words typed on a typewriter and scanned to a screen, it's more than I ever had of my father. So, maybe it'll help them in some way. Maybe answer some of their questions.

As years go by, I'm sure they'll have more questions.

And while I'm still breathing I'll give answers.

I have questions for my father... but he's dead; and as far as I know, there's not a single word written by him anywhere. My kids will have -- already have -- more than that. And eventually they may find some kind of solace in these words.

Knowing that they are loved.

Johnny
