The Following Is A....

The following is a... let's call it "thoughts" of a prisoner. His point of view of how he views prison.

Well, if I was to sum up prison, it'll be this, One of the biggest misconceptions of prison is that we're all 'evil', 'scum', 'society's failures'. But that's wrong 'cause we're all human. We all did things to end up in prison, some even framed. But it's not right to give someone life in prison. I find it, matter of factly, "cruel and unusual punishment". It's punishment for someone to spend the rest of their life in prison and watch as their kids get older. Can't see them go to their prom, not even there for their birthday and not there for support. I find it unusual to watch your T.V. (if you're lucky to have one), sit and watch as life passes you by. Looking at all the places you'll never see, all these new gadgets you'll never have, all the touring spots you'll never visit. To sit in an 8 x 16-foot cell and watch your T.V., your only view of life outside these prison walls. It's harsh, knowing you're succumbed to only this prison perimeter. Mail and phone calls could only go so far. The feeling of just being able to go to the store is so amazing once you have it taken. Your space is limited... everywhere, there's no feeling of being free. And prisons only allow so few accommodations. But after a while, everything seems old and it's no more of interest. But wait a minute... they committed acts so horrible and inhumane, right? They should be locked away forever, right? Are they really, truly sorry for what they did? That I cannot answer but will add this. Everybody does stupid things, some are more forgivable than others. But if I'm correct, the sole purpose of prison is to re-evaluate and rehabilitate the prisoners, right? The prison system is a joke. Something I laugh at! There is NO rehabilitation in prison. To me it seems the higher ups of prison authorities all want one thing... money. In my eyes they give a shit less about prisoners. Being in a room for weeks at a time without having the door open is cruel and unusual punishment. You get irked and get frustrated being all day in a room. And to top it off, there's another person with you. For goodness' sake, your toilet is two feet away from where you sleep. There's no fresh air, only a vent that throws out air that comes from a dusty air conditioner. The food is grade A+ garbage. They say we get a nutritious balanced diet, but it's bullshit. It's barely enough to hold you till the next meal. Canteen is the only way to feel full. But even the canteen prices are outrageous and inflated. And to make matters worse, we're limited to what we can buy. The atmosphere in prison is harsh, you're always at odds and battling with yourself. You have all day to think, so you do... and boy, you think of all kinds of thoughts when all you do is think. Then again, there's what some call a "good side". We don't have to pay bills, worry about car, house, insurance payments, 'cause we're provided with clothes, food and shelter. But at what cost is this? Freedom?

So in conclusion to this loud ass written thought, prison sucks. It ain't nice, it ain't good. But you learn to make the best out of a bad situation. You learn to use and have humor in everything and take things seriously to a certain extent. And for me... educate yourself to better yourself.
