What date (mo/year) 1980? I would be happy to do that minimal research to give you factual information on the recidivism rate...at your institute or your state (or both).

Please cite the statistics that the recedivism and headcounts were "low" when you entered prison in the 1980's versus now.

Not to be argumentative - I'd just like some stats so we can debate this on an even playing field.

Thank you.

these letter/docs appear to be dated 2008/2009 - anything more relevant?

I'd like to post some VERY relevant documents regarding the state vs Mr. Pinson. HIS case is relevant ONLY because he is one of many who want relief from the court once they faced their peers and were adjudicated guilty. The jury didn't have ALL of his bad acts.

The allegation of DNA evidence that would exonerate Mr. Riker was a "white lie"? Who in the legal quagmire lie about the existence of DNA?

One thing you may NOT understand about our penal system here in the US, Nicki, is that these inmates/convicts have been sentenced and are now subject to all penal codes. Try as you might to bolster the "spirits" of the Jeremy Pinson's or the Ronald Clarke's of the various institutions - you simply are not equipped (unless you're independently wealthy or a risk taker who will forgo your own freedom to get his). Perhaps someday if you become a licensed attorney and relocate to the U.S - you could offer a glimmer of the assistance they think they require and hope will set them free. Even then, I'd hate to proffer the odds.

In the interim they want a)postage, b)commissary funds, c)legal representation. I'll cut to the chase and provide you with the bio on Mr Pinson's legal team. Take a fresh look and see whether he was afforded the representation MANDATED by our court system and the quality of his representation. My answer would be a resounding YES. IMO, his defense was competent. There are just some cases (we have many here in the US) in which there is no defense. In the case of Mr. Pinson - his defense was mental illness.

I'll reiterate that I am not without empathy. The fact is that as these inmates wind down through their appeals, there are not many options. The Innocence Project has a backlog and that is IF new evidence (DNA) could possibly exonerate them. I have not seen any suggestion of that in the case of Pinson OR Clarke (the two you and I have sparred over).

At the risk of boring you - I'll ask AGAIN why you're ignoring your own children to infiltrate this segment of the US population.

One thing I do know - this blog is widely read. There are others with the time, the knowledge and perhaps resources to throw their way. My crystal ball says you're none of the above.

My personal feeling? You're using this like a dating site. I take umbrage with that FOR ONE REASON ONLY....IT'S NOT REAL, IT SOLVES NOTHING AND IT IS NARCISSISTIC.

Please take care of your children. THEY are the future.

Hi Jeremy, I received your letter last night and will write back in the next few days. There are 2 I sent last week containing the first things needed for the study unit. Just wanted to let you know I sent them in case there's any problem with you receiving them. I hope there isn't... Once I know they're getting through I'll continue to send the rest. Take care my friend!

Nicki

I just finished the transcription for your post. I'm sorry that it's already 2013 & you had hoped to get it posted earlier. Not enough typists to pass on your messages, I'm afraid. Your letter made me even more aware of the unfortunate truths of modern society (and particularly the American penal system). I figured that you would appreciate this letter as a +1 to your weekly count. This is the first transcription I have done and I can only hope the others will be as good. As a huge fan of poetry myself, the references to "Day" & "Night" definitely piqued my curiosity. I am completely aware of the Digital Divide that is only growing in a society that is so concerned with technological advancements -in many ways sacrificing the long-standing cultural & spiritual roots of any community. A personal anecdote on the topic: I have been helping a young Libyan refugee and her family(another huge news story/possible start for another poem?) integrate into an entirely different society. She recently turned 18 and is attending her last year of high school, she was falling behind in classes not only because of the language, but also simply because teachers assumed that everyone in the class had access to a computer!
Thankfully, I worked with an organisation to secure her access to a computer, but word processing software & internet access are things that are increasingly taken for granted as arguable technological "leaps and bounds" are made every year, only further widening the gap between the billion people online & those who simply don't have the means to "be connected".

Your poem, although lengthy, was insightful and, again, sparks interesting thoughts (i.e. makes me go Hmmm...) Thank you for the privilege of getting to read & transcribe it.

Keep writing :)

Your documents are sealed because you are a snitch. You set that innocent man up for a murder you committed. He never said a word , he knows the prison laws unlike you. He spent 10 years in solitary confinement because he kept his mouth shut. If prosecutors would have convicted the right man for that murder, which is you Mr. Riker none of this would have ever happened where u could have harmed another person.. Got this poor man doing a 40 year sentence for a crime u did. How do you sleep at night? Please answer that!!!
