Dear Timothy, Thank you for sharing these stories. I value your words and it's important for me to be reminded of the realities that you, and others, are facing. I'm glad you can find an outlet in music and in writing and I hope you can please hold fast in the face of temptations of addiction. Brett
Your Christmas poem was very creative and well written. I appreciate you sharing your creativity and your experience. I'm sorry that this Christmas won't be brighter for you, but your efforts to share the truth of your experience will help make it better for others in the future. Please know that many of us are thinking of you and wish you well.
This is an incredibly well written and thoughtful post. I think you are the type of person who could be the leader in revolutionizing our system, which is clearly NOT working. Keep it up, and stay strong!
Your words and depth of insight are food for my weary soul. Thank you.
If you have not already, check out the work of Walter Wink. The easiest and sufficient mode of accessing his theory/theology is to read "The Powers That Be," which is a summary of his three preceding books on the topics that you address here. I'd love to know your thoughts on it if you are able and interested in reading it.
I just want to chip in with my own two cents here. It does not appear to me that Mr. Muise claimed to have been incarcerated because he was an intellectual. Instead, it appears that he claimed that the DOC took punitive actions against prison intellectuals. Even if you believe that Mr. Muise should be incarcerated for his crime, it does not follow that he should not be allowed to advocate his views. The claim that incarceration is in the interests of society needs to be supported by evidence. Otherwise, it is a baseless assertion.
Timothy - Going "Home" expresses feelings that most people have no idea about unless they've done time. I am a former California inmate who now writes a weekly blog highlighting prison reform matters. Your poetry brings alive the hollow feelings left by doing time and raises serious re-entry issues.
I'm interested in writing a blog that will include Going "Home," and Iron Slab to give my readers the benefit of the well-expressed feelings that your words evoke.
May I have persmission to reprint both your works?
Thank you, and best wishes for a safe and productive re-entry.
