Hi Troy!
I really enjoyed reading your work. You are a very talented writer and I liked hearing your perspective on what strength truly is and how any weakness can be turned into a strength. I could not agree more that people often choose the easy road of weakness rather than being brave and showing strength in times that call for it. Yes everyone has weaknesses, but what you choose to do about them is only up to you. True strength is, (not to use a cliche) is being able to repeatedly get back up from the different punches that life throws your way. The people who are not able to continually fight fall and find comfort in their weaknesses where they ultimately suffer. From reading your post I could not imagine the amount of strength that you must have to be where you are on a daily basis. I hope that you continue to use writing as your outlet and I look forward to hearing more from you. Stay strong!

Hi David,
I got your letter today. I'm glad you feel so honored, you have a lot of people in your court! AB Siler has really put some effort forth trying to contact news resources. Your Campaign For Clemency Facebook page has 73 members and growing. Every person I've talked to thinks you deserve this pardon. Every. Single. One. My babysitter, my Realtor, even my dentist! They've all written Gov Quinn on your behalf. A military advocate I spoke with said Facebook, media, and bombarding the governor's office with pardon requests is exactly what we need to be doing. Let's hope 70+ letters thus far is enough to at least get Gov Quinn's attention, right? It's a start... I contacted the Senator for my area and requested a meeting. I was advised to call but there was a "request a meeting" page. After hitting submit I got a little nervous. A meeting with a Senator? I think I'm a little out of my expertise. But hey, it's worth a shot. And it will be quite the learning experience if I get a call to schedule a meeting.

I hope you received my letter (sent back for postage and resent again so it took a while). I included 2 recent TIME magazines and a printout of your Facebook page (the magazines have all been from my personal subscriptions so if those disappear before reaching you, it only cost me postage). Now I realized it's cheaper to buy you a subscription than mail them. So I got you ESPN. Let's hope they make it into your hands every month. And don'g forget to transfer them to your new address when you get out though! ;) If these don't reach you, let me know and I'll have to resort to sending you something less enticing to swipe, like Carpenter's Weekly or anything with the word "God" on the cover. Take care,

Trevin, my son is in jail awaiting preliminary hearing for 3 class A felonies. I discovered your site and am fascinated with your story. You have encouraged me. I pray he will meet someone like you when the time comes. He is 19 years of age. Looking at 10 to 30 and all carry the 85% rule.

Thank you for sharing. You have given me hope. Will follow you with anticipation.

there is one seller on ebay with username
'coyotechrist'

he has some prison art list from CA
for $80
skulls, women, rays of the sun, are main focus

my ebay is random..
there is a song about taking $20 bill to thrift store and trying to make a 'come up'.

lot's of videos on youtube of people video taping their journey from beginning to end.

pull up in parking lot of Goodwill..
go in and find items of value to sell on ebay.
usually things sell for couple of bucks
and they can be brand new items.

even in my small town.. i find Polo shirt for $2 at thrift store and sell for $25 each on ebay. computer keyboards, speakers, neckties, or coffee mugs.. everything seems to sell.

i will send that seller a message and ask him to look at your blog/contact you

hope today is treating you well

On cigarette taxes...

Your article sounds a lot like me back when smoking was banned in restaurants and stores and public buildings in Ontario.

Back then I was somewhat offended that restaurant owners could not open an establishment that catered specifically to smokers. I was not a smoker, but I felt at the time that instead of smoking and non-smoking sections in a building, a store owner should decide whether the entire place was smoking or non-smoking. I figured he shouldn't try to have it both ways. I assumed that the general move to non-smoking in society would eventually encourage restaurants to move toward non-smoking voluntarily, with perhaps a few bars dedicated to smokers.

Having enjoyed a nearly smoke-free existence now for over 7 years, I must admit, it was a really good move. The government took a stand for non-smokers against second hand smoke. They took a full measure, instead of a half-measure that I thought was more appropriate at the time, and I'm grateful they did.

It is still possible to smoke in Ontario, but you have to pay high taxes (13.975 cents in tax per cigarrette), and avoid harming non-smokers by usually smoking outside.

On giving away books....

I find that surprisingly few books are ones that I want to keep to re-read over and over and over.

There are lots that are interesting, but easily ignored.

There are others that are have some very useful points. For these, it often suffices to take notes on these high points, record the title and author, and then give the book away. It is easier to go back later and reference those special comments this way, when I have my own notes. And it is easier to share those insights with others. And it takes up less space, while sharing the book.

If I am diligent in recording my notes as I read the book, at the end, it is easy to let the book go. I'm not always that diligent though.

And then there are books that are almost completely insightful, or completely entertaining. Where taking notes would be useless, because I'd just have to copy the whole book. :-) Those are the ones I tend to keep so far.

I also find that there is so much new stuff coming at me, and often it comes at the exact time I need it, that hanging onto old books just weighs me down.
