Along For The Ride

Along For The Ride

Imagine if you had a friend,
who was always there - at your side,
to comfort, and to lift you up,
whenever you were tried.

If you knew he was the godly sort,
who couldn't bear to witness sin,
would it have made you think twice,
before that 3rd shot of gin?

If he was there as a witness,
everytime that you had lied -
or got involved in conflicts,
because of jealousy or pride.

Would it make you feel uncomfortable,
if he watched as you 'did dirt?'
Or would you try to put aside,
those things you knew caused him to hurt?

Would you try to find time alone,
so you wouldn't feel the shame,
when you did those things that would have shown,
that you still played the devil's game?

Well think of this the next time,
that you try to 'sin and hide,'
the spirit of the living God,
is always there inside.

When you din, you invite Him in,
to go 'along for the ride.'
to witness all those things you do,
for which He was crucified.

How do you think it makes Him feel,
when He sees through your disguise -
and His wounds are re-opened,
by the tears that fill His eyes.

You lie only to yourself,
and the truth can't be denied,
everytime you sin my friend,
you quench the spirit inside.

So think twice my brother,
before you next 'decide' -
remember the Holy Spirit,
that you take along for the ride.
