Folly, Foolishness, and Mismanagement

Well, whenever things start going better, this administration seeks to make them worse. At this institution, we just got off a restrictive program that had us locked down every third weekday and weekend afternoons which lasted fifteen months. This was all done in the name of "saving money", which was laughable since we saw many officers working overtime shifts.

Now we are being told that beginning in August, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays will be lockdown days so that the staff can be trained on the new computer program that is designed to eliminate paperwork. The duration of this will last up to six weeks. I do understand the need to train the staff, but this effort to highly restrict our programming appears to be quite overboard. In reality, it should only take about twenty hours to train anyone on this software, so sequestering 288 hours seems outlandish.

The computers were installed in the buildings four months ago and all the building clerks were unassigned at the time. Since we were still on that modified program, why could the training not have been accomplished in that time frame? This also speaks to the overall program with the personnel who got hired to custodial officer positions. There are few who have any college education and their ability to truly understand an issue and properly deal with it.

Also, with computer access, how many will waste time playing games such as Solitaire while on the clock? Already they kick back in their chairs with their feet propped up on the desk reading magazines and newspapers.
