The Mystical Downfall of Our Society

Charmed, Medium, Ghost Whisperer, The Secret Circle, A Gifted Man, Supernatural, and Vampire Diaries. All are recent, current or upcoming shows serialized on TV. All of them are key on a human activity to tap into and or manipulate the spiritual world that exists unseen to us. I know that all the shows listed are fictional, but that fact does not negate the influence they have upon the psyche and an individual's belief system. This acceptance by society at large has desensitized us to the true nature of spiritual welfare, making us vulnerable to attacks that will leave us ineffective for service.

Realize that I ma speaking of our current "body of Christ", those whom call themselves Christians yet enjoy the fruits and feasts of this world. Eph. 6:10-18 speaks as to how we are to prepare for daily combat in this battlefield called life. Rom. 12:2 tells us that we are to renew our mind so that it does not confirm to the thoughts of this world, the battle is for your mind. If not, then why is the word "renewing" used as a continual action, meaning that it is an unending exercise. Compare Philippians 4:7 where we are told that it is God who will keep, a continual position, our hearts and minds though Christ Jesus. In the light of all this, it should be seen that we are to guard our minds against ungodly viewpoints, taking captive every errant thought so that it does not influence our outward actions. If we do not, then we run the risk of not truly believing God in all things.

Looking at the demise of our culture over the last hundred years, I believe that the reason and cause has been the overwhelming acceptance of entertainment to pass our non-working time. Before the advent of radio and TV, adventure and fantasy was regulated to the genre of books which had less effect on society due to their rarity and cost. The only book to be more likely be in a home was the Bible and it was often used to teach reading skills. Since a majority of the public learned to read from the Bible, the public was at the very least familiar with scriptures even if one refused to believe it.

So, yes, the argument can be made that radio and television are not distributing material that is truly new but merely repackaged and released for anyone willing to listen to watch. The major difference is the frequency and amplitude of the material delivered. Just look at the effect a little broadcast on the radio called War of the Worlds had on the public. Most who tuned in just a little late thought the world was at an end. That's what I mean by amplifying a product. Frequency is proved by our current advertising market. The maxim that if a lie is told often enough, people will start to believe it is proven on a weekly basis. Repetition is the key to implementing an idea that will bear fruit. This is true with anything, scriptural truths or worldly ideals, it doesn't matter.

So, yes, the last century has seen a steady decline in morality and an increase in seeking a spirituality apart from the God of the Bible. You can now see the pursuit and acceptance of mystical things has undermined our society and our knowledge of our Creator.
