The Man Behind the Gate

Out of sight out of mind I promise I won't forget about you,
because my memories don't change even when the people in them do.
You got to cherish what you love and never make a promise,
because lies can break your heart but so can being honest.
They said the truth would hurt but I didn't want to listen,
because I was blinded by her sparkle like diamonds when they glisten.
I thought what we shared was love to me it felt so real,
but all she cared about was dope and the way it made her feel.
She never thought about my feelings for her it was to late,
because she couldn't look past my situation to see the man behind the gate.

I know how that feeling is...I had love for a man who only cared about ice and the feelings it gave him and never saw how deeply I cared for/about him. I put myself through that for almost 7 years before I got out. It's hard; loving someone so fiercely that just needs/wants you for something like that. Granted I do not know your situation nor whom you speak of...but I know how it hurts, and how long it takes to recover. I wish you a brighter future and for someone to value you for you, not your occupation nor your 'street skills'. Keep writing tho! It helps..
