Breaking Barriers

Here in the prison I'm in it's a rarity to hear music. There is one exception though (unless you have a TV with a radio). That is that we get a TV station called J-C-T-V (Jesus Christ Television).
In a quick outline, this station offers its viewers news, opinions, shows, movies, and music of the Christian perspective. The thing is that as a self proclaimed Athiest, I find myself more and more listening and gravitating towards this music.
And that's the thing, just cause I'm a Athiest doesn't mean I shun all things religious or "godly". No, it just means I don't believe that there is a supreme being, power or entity in control of the known universe. More surprisingly to my self in the content of the music and the message. As I grew up listening to rap and hip hop, the message that music portrays is utterly destructive to the ears that hear it. People will disagree to agree but there's no denying that music has a way to direct our outlook and opinions. It also sways us, doesn't it?
Instead of talking about guns, drugs, sex, violence and other negative things, this Christian music rebuttals these views main stream rappers add and not only that but promotes love, peace, empathy and a will to change the world. Now let me say that turning everybody "Christian" is not the answer nor will that in itself change and transform the world to a peaceful loving place. However it could change views and open minds to the the fallacies and backwards music.
Listening to this music has drastically altered my perspective on Christians and religion in a way. So in a final word, whatever can connect bridges is a start to better things.
