First Account: I did my time...

First Account: I did my time, so I have to let the next guy do his time

May sound a little selfish, but it's truly how I feel. After doing 16 years with still 2 years left to serve, I'm tired and I could care less why prison has the horrible portrait that it has. You can thank the discovery channel for that along with all those other shows on television that paint inaccurate depictions of prison life just to boost their ratings. They ALWAYS show the same thing: fights, assaults, stabbings, prison gangs and tattoos. I believe I've had my share of hard prison time, which was mainly due to my own actions of learning how to adjust to prison life when I first came to prison. There is no manuel on how to serve time in prison. You either learn by hook or crook, which means you pick up as you go along. To those on the outside looking in, prison life may seem not that bad. But once you arrive here and spend years here, you begin to realize that you've made a big mistake and that prison is a world of it's own. A world with different morals, different rules and different personalities.

Thank you for helping break the negative stereotype of what prison is like, captured in the media, and for being real and honest. Things like this really help shift the perspective we have and help people learn.

I wish you all the best in the world!
