Subject: "Higher Education"
I've been engaged in a paralegal correspondence course for 3 weeks now. So far, so good. I've completed 2 exams so far, and received an "A+" on my first exam. The second exam grade is pending.
I sought out this course because it has been a dream of mine, ever since I passed my GED exam. I just couldn't afford the course back then, and the prison don't consider providing a death row prisoner an education a sound investment. They want us to remain ignorant, so they can continue to exploit us. I woke up and smelled the coffee. I'm tired of being hoodwinked by the criminal justice system and society. Due to my inadequate education & lack of knowledge, I ended up here on death row.
I didn't know my basic rights, nor did I know how to navigate the murky waters of society to extricate & elevate myself out of the traps layered to obstruct my growth.
I dropped out of high school because I didn't know any better. I didn't know how critical it was in my preparation to get somewhere in this life. I thought I could survive on the streets. I was discouraged from trying to integrate with society because I was always told I wasn't good enough and that I didn't below.
I don't believe in those lies an more. I refuse to let the system suppress my crown. Knowledge is power, and the tool we all need to make our world a better place. By engaging in this education correspondence course, I'm taking responsibility for my part in elevating myself & those around me. I can proceed with my dream of making this world a better place.
The course is from Blackstone Career Institute, a very reputable school. It's a 31 lession paralegal course that takes between 8-24 months to complete. I can go at my own pace, and take the exam after each lesson when I feel comfortable with the material. I then mail the exam in for my grade. It feels great to be taking charge of my life!
