I transferred yesterday from Graham Correctional Center to Kewanee, a new transitional assistance program. I have 12 months remaining until parole (MSR), and it appears I will need every bit of it to take full advantage of what is available here.
My first 90 days are pre-scheduled with daily classes that focus on life skills (job prep), work skills (computer applications use and typing), and mental health stability (like anger management, substance abuse).
I am pleased that there is a veteran specific PTSD group established. The social worker even spoke of a nearby VA support network that uses horses to help with therapy for vets and their families.
I haven't been here 24 hours, and I have seen a TED talk already as part of the introduction. To me this is already a sign of the level of expectation and professionalism of this program.
More later as I settle in.
