Hi Evy,
Thanks for your feedback. I've written another related blog since this one providing more information.
I'd like to ask for your help. I'd like you to call the governor and the chairman of the parole commission and urge them to use their discretionary authority to parole all the old law prisoners who are eligible and who do not pose a risk to the public.
Use me as an example: I've been in prison over 35 years for stabbing a man in a fight(causing his death). I've been parole eligible since 1996. I spent 9 years in minimum security and community custody which included 19 months of work release and driving a state van over 30,000 miles unescorted throughout northwestern Wisconsin. I also earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from UW Platteville, completed all required programs and have no conduct reports. I am 66 years old.
In 2011, when Scott Walker become governor, I was removed from a work-release center and placed in Stanley where I have been repeatedly denied release on parole or return to a work-release center.
Ask the governor and chairman to explain why I can't be released now in light of the pandemic.
I would appreciate your help. It will not help John directly - except to reduce prison overcrowding - but in the long term, I can more effectively work to end the Mass Incarceration Movement from out there than from in here (assuming I survive the pandemic).
Governor Tony Evers (608)266-1212
Parole Commission Chairman Jon Tate
(608)240-7280
Thanks for your help.
Harlan
