Re: Denial of Parole w/ five (5) year "set-back"
Frank Soffen
Dear Supporter:
I am sad to report that Frank Soffen was denied release on parole supervision. The unanimous decision of the parole board to deny Frank release is tantamount to a death sentence for him. Frank will not see his next review hearing. Sadly, he will be dead by then.
We need to show the outrage for this decision. Frank Soffen poses NO threat if released. He is medically incapacitated and his further incarceration does NOT serve the welfare of society. Frank Soffen has served forty years in prison and just wants to die at his son's home. What kind of society are we if we allow the infirm and disabled to be punished beyond all reason? One I hope you will help us work to change.
We need you to do whatever you feel will get the message out there. My hopes are that you will use your media contacts, political contacts, and reform community allies to shout Frank's story from the rooftops! The cause is not about Frank Soffen, it is about compassion and humane treatment. I have been humbled by our failures of late. I am at a loss for specific instructions. This is why I am leaving it up to you and your judgment to devise a plan, both personal and on a community scale, which will get this draconian treatment into the limelight.
Enclosed you will find an article, a call to action so to speak, that I have authored about the decision. My way is to attack the heart of the issue. I believe that former prosecutor Josh Wall is the heart of this failed decision. You have my expressed written consent to use this piece in any manner you see fit. I'm never afraid to be the bad guy. You will also find enclosed a copy of Frank Soffen's Record of Decision from this most recent parole hearing. The silence on Frank's medical condition and full incapacitation screams of malfeasance. Frank seeks medical parole, and the parole board treated him with its usual disdain as a standard case. Their decision is surely a death sentence for Frank and acts as another nail in the coffin of commonsense reform.
We need your help NOW more than ever! Please let me know what you think you can do for the cause. Frank's life hangs in the balance. I hope to hear from you very soon.
Urgently yours,
Timothy J. Muise, #W66927

I very much doubt that you understand.
This sentiment would apply equally to the author of this post. It is apparent the bitterness he holds in his heart is self-destructive.
If a parole board doesn't give us the decision we want it doesn't mean we should keep changing to a "better" one that does.
I think it's entirely within reason to call for change. Whether it comes, how people understand the need for change - well, you get your opinion, too.
But it's important to work towards a better end - always.
