Hello world!
Back on line again! Correctional Officers at times are funny. The relationship between C.O.'s and inmates is truly "love/hate". It's hard to be serious when you see a C.O. who looks like your grandmother. Gray hair, false teeth and squeeky voice completes the picture.
There are so many knuckleheads who disrespect authority and assume "grandma" is a pushover. So I can only smile, hold my head down, and bite my tongue to keep from laughing out loud as sweet looking grandma has to prove who's boss. Like a seasoned Marine Drill Instructor she will silently step into the biggest guy, with the biggest mouth and in 3 sentences have him groveling like a hurt puppy.
I hope I never piss off "grandma", because I won't be able to stop laughing. And before I can explain myself I'll have 5 other C.O.'s dragging me off in handcuffs to the hole (segregation).
Happy Easter!
David

Not sure you remember me but I served with you back in the late 80's early 90's...2/8...Comm platoon. I want you to know that a lot of young Marines looked up to you back in the day. I was one of them. That platoon didn't have a lot of great leaders but you were one of the great. I just want to let you know I still feel that way. I still think you are a great leader. I heard you tried to get an investigation started on the 2 so called leaders we had. I too tried after I left. I succeeded but never knew what happened. I want to thank you for doing that for those of us who didn't stand up for ourselves.
It devistated me to read about the trouble you have gone through and how bad PTSD got to you. The first thing I thought when I read the article about what happened was something inside must have brought you down. This was NOT the Linley (Chesty) I knew. Now I read your blogs and I can see the you I knew then. I will try to keep in touch with you if you wish. A lot of us from 2/8 have been getting together on FaceBook and I can tell everyone hello for you if you want me to. Take care and keep up with the posts as you can.
LCPL Vaughn (Ron Vaughn)
I think Ron voiced it best by saying that so many of us looked up to you back when you were with 2/8 COMM. In re-connecting with the guys from the unit, so many of them voiced similar feelings and said that you always treated us firmly, yet fairly and with respect. I have always looked up to you and modeled my own leadership after the traits that you displayed during our service together.
The fact that you are now incarcerated does not diminish the impact that you have had on all of us.
Please let us know how we can get in touch with you or if there is anything we can do for you.
Semper Fi,
Cpl Jeffrey Smith
Jeff and Ron summed up my thoughts as well or better than I could express them myself. I want you to know that we are all thinking about you.
In my opinion, you should not have been imprisoned. We know you have a good heart and a man with solid character. Let us know what we can do to help you during this trying time.
We really care about you. You are one of us.
Semper Fi,
L/cpl Bill Franklin
I have left another message on another one of your blogs so you may have to search for it. As you can see, you have left a positive impression on many of those you served with.
I am sure if we did a survey of other people you were with it would come back the same, Damn Great Marine and Friend. You have the Marine Brotherhood here to support you, no questions asked, no explanation needed. Our Blood runs green, through and through.
I read also another Blog where you posted "Another Day In Paradise", and it was quiet good. I would encourage you to continue your writing as it could be a best seller.
When you get a chance to post again, let me know anything you may need, want or wish you had. I will see what I can do. Dave as many have said, you are not alone and as Marines we do not leave anyone behind. You are in all of our thoughts and Prayers. I will write you privately so we can share more.

I treasure the time we had in the corp and learned much from you. I only hope we can continue to connect outside the corp. Hope to hear from you soon.
may God bless you!
