Re: CLOSURE OF PROGRAMS AND RELIGIOUS SERVICES AT MCI SHIRLEY
Dear Governor Patrick:
The Programs and School buildings are being regularly shut down here at MCI Shirley. These are where school, programming, and religious services take place. The reason given is understaffing, and this fantasy reason is so insane on its face I would like to laugh, but the real consequences being murders in your cities due to unprepared and angry prisoners being released from the confines of MCI Shirley.
As you are well aware the staffing ratio here in the Commonwealth is 2.2 prisoners for every 1 DOC employee, yet they can not find two (2) guards to open the Programs and School buildings here at MCI Shirley. I will indeed be saddened when in the not too distant future I will report to your office a murder committed in the Mattapan Corridor by someone who has been released, unprepared, from MCI Shirley. Why does this have to be my future letter? I would much rather report about men who leave and work with the youth or disabled, but this "hate factory" does not produce such men. This is YOUR prison. It is YOUR obligation to do something to change the status quo.
We now have a shift commander, [censored], who has the union head that organized MCOUFU members following former commissioner Dennehy around with an inflatable rat? Outrageous! But even more outrageous that he is the highest ranking guard in charge of operations here. No wonder this joint is such a failure. Moe, Larry and Curly ran better business. ACME Corrections must come to an end.
Please help your constituents by doing something about these operational failures here at MCI Shirley. Thank you.
Respectfully,

Timothy J. Muise
