Prison Woes: Spring Packages

We received our Spring Package program delivery this past week. Prisoners with funds, or family and friends with the funds and the heart to do so, can order a large care package. It comes through www.southcarolinapackages.com by a company called: Access Securepak in St. Louis, MO.
It has allowed me to stock up on Maxwell House to last me until about Fall--since the coffee they sell here at the prison store is some horrid no-name brand. There's many worse items, but it's the coffee I look most forward to. Which is odd since I really wasn't much of a coffee drinker before my untimely removal from society. Maybe it's the nerves? I don't know. All I do know, is that it helps.
We've had a pretty bad robbery and a stabbing this past week too, with an increase of wannabe-thug activity in one of the dorms. Luckily not in the dorm I'm in--this dorm, Congaree, is pretty calm most of the time. One thing I can give BRCI credit for is that they do seem to make an attempt at creating a safe place for prisoners. At least, that is, for prisoners who behave safely.
We got to order $150.00 at a time worth of food items from the package, plus some clothing items. And we all have to kinda keep our things locked up due to sticky-hand-junkies that roam around sneakily--or so they think--looking for any lockers or cells unlocked and unattended.
Prison sucks.
But, it's not death; death is certainly worse.
And as long as I live and breath, there's hope.
Plus, in the meantime, there's lots of coffee....
