Pure MIlk & The Word?

Pure Milk of the Word?

How'd the "simplicity" of the gospel
Turn out to be so complicated?
And the integrity of the apostle
Turn out to be so adulterated?

If Paul were to write to the "Church" today
Would the Church even appreciate it?
Or churn out copies in their dismay,
Then hold a conference to debate it.

How'd the "word" of truth become a paragraph,
And all those "branches" accumulate.
Did someone vote on the Lord's behalf,
For the "Church" to be syndicated?

What if HE interrupted our program
So He could make a special announcement.
His words would be like a battering ram,
That included a scathing denouncement.

When the "milk of the word" becomes pasteurized,
Is it no wonder it doesn't bear fruit.
When it's been skimmed, condensed and homogenized
It starts to wither there at the root.

The "milk of the word" is under attack!
They've substituted it with similar.
Evaporated, it seems until
It resembles some kind of infamil.

Some just use the milk to bilk the flock -
Powdered, watered down - then served from a crock.
It's been beaten to butter and battered to cheese,
Til "God's blessing" just signifies a sneeze.

But remember, God's not to be mocked -
He sees how the Church has been defrocked.
Led by some men with vain delusion,
Twisting the word to sow confusion.

I pity those who will feel the rod,
For twisting the word - because the word is God.

The pure milk of the word has been distilled,
Into some "prosperity gospels".
And the way that the milk has been spilled
Would bring tears to the first Apostles.

Spilled, distilled and adulterated -
Til the truth has just evaporated.
When they lost the truth, they lost its power,
Some lost folks even think the milk is sour.

Some preachers may soon be indicted,
For "theft by deception and fraud",
Bilking the faithful has been cited -
And all done in the name of God.

In 2nd Corinthians, Paul says this:
"...the testimony of our conscience."
That's the reason the saint rejoices -
Not over his and hers Rolls Royces!

But "as a man soweth, thus shall he reap"
There will come a time when those men will weep.
There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth,
When they get the "reward" God will bequeath.

I pity those men who will feel the rod,
For twisting the word - because the word is God.
