Thank you so much for taking the time to respond (and comments ARE appreciated!!). The best blogs are yet to come, so please continue checking in!!

Your response points out (without saying it) that I am being harsh. This is true for some good reasons.

For one, the media is (out here, at least) somewhat obsessed with all these "Mayan Predictions" and my (Jeh. Lun. ??) yard buddy is thoroughly convinced that his church is right too. So the barrage of stupidity is endless at times and that is frustrating - why obsess about a caveman calendar when there's far more news that is pertinent top the here and now??

Second, "doomsday cults" are the result of brainwashing by despotic nutbars.. I.E Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heaven's Gate, etc. They really don't have a place in a modern, sensible society that is technologically advanced.

That said, you can't convince me that the Mayans had an "end-world" insight - they were a caveman-cum-egyptian society technologically. They were not civilised, by far (slavery, rape, torture, sacrifice) and it's provable that the "codex" was invented by the Inca society which replaced Mayan culture at about the same time the calendar ended.

A necklace-computer (PURE genius, BTW) is a heck of a lot easier to tote around over a bunch of giant carved rocks.

That part said, I don't think of the Mayans as a "doomsday cult" nor anything more/less than the culture they were. They had no cure for cancer, no pick-up trucks, no Direct TV... They were a primitive culture fitting for their time. Yet the calendar ending was NOT a prediction.

Last, you're right! There's a lot of stupid and very gullible people out there and THOSE are the ones who annoy me most. Those folks must get some kind of wake up call. I hope...

There's also hope that some really rich moron WILL send me cash and a Ferrari as he's convinced that the end is here.
