Celebrating Life @ 43

It was great to celebrate another year of life, despite the soul-sucking oppressive confinement I find myself in. I had a pizza party with my friends, of course, I did the cooking. It was my treat, a way to express my love for my prison family & friends. It's been a long & difficult journey, and I'm glad that I had finally broken down the barriers that discouraged friendships. Finding friends has made my existence in here a little more bearable, interesting & worthwhile. I've grown & lived.

There wasn't much I could do, so after feeding my family, I cleaned my cell, watched "Dragonball Z" cartoon & a few movies (Les Miserables; and some Sci-fi movies.)

I wanted to take a break from it all, so I just kept to myself and read the Bible for a while. It's so great to be alive. No matter how dark of a place I'm in, everyday above ground is a blessing. I'm charged for the opportunity to make a difference, and the new year is full of those opportunities.

One of my goals is to get more of my art works photographed and posted on my web page. It's been very difficult to find someone to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. My attempt to accomplish this before with well-meaning friends didn't go so well. And patrons that have purchased a painting haven't been very accommodating in providing a photo of it. So, my goal is to find a way to photograph more of my artworks.

I would also like to accomplish more divine inspirations for the "Stop The Violence" & "Crime Prevention" causes I've been working on before my vision gets any worse. My vision has been deteriorating ever since the DOC turned on these stupid "night lights," which seems to have caused my eyelids to spasm. Medical says there's nothing that they can do. They tell me to turn my back to the light when I sleep or cover my eyes. I don't think they wish to do anything, because of all the ailments I've come to them with they've claimed the inability to treat.

So far I've managed to continue painting, but the last two months it has become more difficult. There's nothing I can do until I see a real doctor.

Two more prisoners are on their last legs. They're in the hospital from conditions that could've been treated if dealt with early-on. I don't know the full extent of their conditions, but all I know if that one is dying from kidney failure, and the other from old age. It's hard to watch these people around me approaching so close to death year after year. It really affects me, and that's why I feel compelled to live in the moment and appreciate what I can make of it.

Celebrating 43 years had been wonderful, despite my incarceration. Commissary processed our slips too late in the week, so my phone time wasn't on for me to call my family; haven't talked to them since the week before Christmas. It does affect me, but I refuse to let it get me down. So "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
