Thanks for your message. I'm so sorry I haven't replied till now - my brain has been eaten by work and all I could think of during January was accountancy. Now THAT'S tragic. I really hope this still gets to you.
I think The Hunger Games definitely has things to say about American society - we Brits do everything in a small scale, at least these days we do, so sometimes the American way of doing things can seem like a modern day empire to us.
You make a good point about the army/war on terror. I find the way the killing of young people (both ours and those on the other side) is idolised as something heroic to be really troubling. There was an army join-up event in town recently and I saw a soldier letting a little boy of about 8 or 9 climb into a tank. The boy was laughing all the way, it was quite an image.
Thanks for your reply - I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to send another message to you; it's been very busy for me lately.
Actually apparently global warming means the UK will get colder and wetter. Typical.
Quilt would be quite an old fashioned word here! I don't think we use comforter at all.
To be honest, I don't have any nicknames, they remind me of when I was a child which is a bit awkward when you're 28. :D But you can call me something else if you want. ;)
I don't watch Downton but I do love Doctor Who. I used to watch Last of the Summer Wine when I was a kid!
When My Ding a Ling was performed on UK TV they had an artist drawing behind him to illustrate very clearly that the song had NOTHING to do with anything naughty but was in fact a stick with bells on. Obviously.
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I only used the example of Nazi Germany because this was something you mentioned in your original post. You can replace it with Mao or Stalin if you wish. :D I agree that it is strange that we consider Hitler's crimes to be so much worse than those of other governments.
I am not American (British) but I think in the years to come America will go through the same things my country did 60 or so years ago, and realise they are not the most important world power. I think it will be a difficult cultural change, the effects of which are being felt already in the paranoia of some. Personally I don't believe this is because of God, unless you believe God prefers China to be more powerful? Perhaps He does!
Sorry for taking a couple of weeks to reply to you - I have been very busy, which makes me feel guilty as the people I owe replies to don't have the opportunity to be busy!
I think you have a real skill for writing - do you just write your thoughts or have you written creatively?
I know it can be so hard to have to find your own way in life and teach yourself. It's even harder if you have fewer opportunities. Anyone that can still manage it under tough circumstances is to be admired.
Thanks for your reply - I find a lot of this stuff hard to understand, having not been brought up with any sort of knowledge of religion, so I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and interpretation.
I'm really flattered to get this amazing reply, to think that even a little I might have sparked some of the thoughts in this letter. You're right that you cannot change people's minds about the past, all you can do is change the future.
Hi Jesse - I'm glad you're still writing. It's interesting to hear about your inner journey - thanks for sharing! I can relate to the experience of needing a life raft in the midst of desperate times. Personally I "found religion" (so to speak), but I also believe that faith is a gift that comes from beyond us, not something we can give to ourselves or earn in some way. I think it's very important to keep seeking truth no matter what and it sounds like you do that! I'm glad to hear you've found more peace.
Hi Trevin - I'm glad you shared more of your story. It must have been confusing to go through all of that when you were so young. I'm curious why you included the quote about violence at the end? Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading more. Take care!
Thanks for writing! I finished the transcription for your post.
You haven't mentioned her since that I've seen, so I thought you might like to know that Malala - the young girl shot for opposing the Taliban - is doing incredibly well and I believe out of hospital now.
You know what? I don't think I have. Until now, I haven't really thought about it. The reason? Because I kept up with the young lady in question and her friends over the years. I see the damage it did not just to her but to the ones around her.
I'm pretty sure my lack of forgiveness on your part is my problem at this point, not yours. You seem to have made a sincere request for it, and I am not quite mature enough to grant it. That's really not your issue, though. It's mine.

Perhaps I'm one of the people affected, too.
