That song was so prominent in our parting of ways. As for Ellies statement of me getting mad about her writing is only half true. I get mad because of her extreme talent of pulling you into the story only to leave it unfinished and wanting more. Also the fact that she only wants to write when there are chores to be done. I do hope this new year has treated you well so far. I sadly got the flu but have recovered mostly. I pray its not an omen of how the rest of the year will be. Take care of yourself
I think the next hearings are soon (I have to check the internet to see if they have been published).
It is a long time coming....and (you already know this!) when the change comes it will be another step down program. (Unless there is a court remedy). (That's my take on it, anyway).
I wish there was another way....but there is not. Folks out here (in the country) remain angry, I think, at felons and have no interest/belief in change. That hurts you- of course - but us, too, as a society.
I wonder if you've given some thought to the violence in the CA. prisons and how to reduce it. I know that when folks are in prison, they group off - and if they've done that on the streets, too, well - it's worse in prison.
What do you think would help? Do you regret the groups that you've joined in the past? (Can you write about that? If not, I understand).
I'm just curious about your thoughts - and ideas. What would you tell someone who is 15 about making choices/decisions for his future.
I agree, the press was pretty bad. There were a few in depth stories on the alternative press (and even a few on some mainstream magazines) - but much of it was garbage.
The really hopeful thing is that some of the reps. out in California really get it. And they are on the side of change. There are also some pretty big organizations that are supportive.
I think the lawsuit might help most. But I do believe that change will come. It will not look as nice as folks want (not everyone will head out into general pop). But, in my opinion, they will support a 'step-down' mechanism for folks - so there is a way out of solitary.
We are responsible, as citizens, for what has happened. I know. It's going to take a real change in OUR thinking to get the system reformed. And honestly, I don't think we want to commit to that. We - as a society - really still do just want to lock people up and throw away the key.
On the other hand, we don't want to pay for what we have. That - I believe - will ease some of the pressure.
I totally agree. She's young and has a lot of growing up to do. It's hard enough finding yourself - but she is doing that with a team of handlers and fans who are hanging on every word. It's real (in that it's her real life), but it's not *real*.
On the other hand, at 23 I had graduated college and was working. I would never have done what she did. I'm not a prude - in fact, I'm a pretty liberal democrat. But I wanted to do something good in the world. And I valued kindness.
We all make mistakes. I made a whole bunch. But when I made them, I was self aware enough to know what they were. I get it that the culture supports her behavior (it sure does money wise!). But I hold her responsible because it's the only thing that will help her. (That and rehab, which I suspect is coming....)
I'd never heard about Water Bears before but they sound fascinating!
A quick look on Wikipedia tells me that they are also known as Moss Piglets, can survive without food or water for 10 years and live all over the world, from the poles to the equator.
These people aren't fools. They get begging letters all the time and recognize when someone is running game on them. The sheer number of letters you send out show it up as a scam and these pastors probably talk to each other. I wouldn't be surprised if they had some sort of blacklist of scammers with you on it.
