In The Life Of A Connecticut Prisoner #4
By Richard Stevenson

I sent the letter below to a local news paper. In addition, I have to make moves to ensure that it, and all my posts reach their destinations. The Department Of Corrections here at Cheshire C.I. have been interfering with my incoming and outgoing mail the entire year - Unconstitutionally. Their actions let me know that I'm doing the right thing. This letter was sent to the Record-Journal.

Editor,
The Department of Correction Commissioner wants to quadruple the number of federal inmates held in state prisons and profit from this "transaction". Mr. Dzurenda should first consider properly housing the prisoners who are sleeping on the floors in banana boats at a number of the state's jails and prisons (including here at Cheshire C.I.).

These level-3 prisoners are being held at level-4 prisons and are not being quarantined and medically cleared before integration with the general population in violation of policy. This is a catastrophe begging for an epidemic. There has already been at least one case of scabies at this facility.

I won't be able to find out if there were any other contagious disease outbreaks under the Freedom Of Information Act because any information that would expose abuses by DOC will be opposed and denied under their favorite shield, "Safety & Security"... Sound familiar?

END

My point is that any time the government wants to "DE-CONSTITUTIONALIZE" a right that the public wouldn't ordinarily give up they bring out the foreign and/or domestic boogeyman claiming the "Safety & Security" of your family is at risk. Beware of this tactic! It almost always begins with the rights of the country's prisoners in order to use to courts to get their foot in the door. I'll give examples in my next post.

Rich.

Rich,

This is awful. Is there anything that a person from the outside like myself can do to help you in your effort to expose these violations and horrible conditions?

Sincerely,

Rachael
