Re: Awarding good time and work time credits to T.D.C.J. offenders
Dear constituent,
As a voting Texas citizen, I would like to know why my tax dollars are being wasted by the mass incarceration in Texas prisons. The 74 legislature gave the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles the authority to award offenders their good time and work time based on a "case-by-case basis." However, there are never any reviews outside the parole interview. The prison officials are using the disciplinary procedure as a weapon to take offenders good and work time for falsified infractions, etc.
These adverse acts are deceptive, fraudulent, and discriminatory, as well as a violation of the U.S. Constitution Amendments 8th and 14th.
This is causing overcrowding, under staffing, and is counterproductive to the rehabilitation of the offender. Even at parole interviews, good and work time is usually not awarded.
Please enact an amendment for the 2017 session that will automatically award all offenders good and work time. This credit will promote release onto the supervision to exercise the rehabilitation efforts that the state has offered.
