A Few of My Favorite Things
In the spirit of fun, I was thinking today that there's just some stuff about me that is never EVER going to change. There're things that own me. For that matter, I'd ask that when you read this post, sometime within the next twenty-four hours, take a few minutes to clear your head and think about what things about yourself will never change. I'm not talking about scars or stretch marks, or left/right handedness. I'm talking about that favorite movie, song or food that, no matter what people do to change your mind about, you'll still say, "No, this one thing is still 'it'."
Here's a few of mine to give you focused idea of what I mean.
City of Angels - not "just 'cause" Meg Ryan's in it. Sorry, Meg, BTW... You're not #1 anymore. See! Change right there. But it's always my favorite movie because, on some level, I love the premise, plot, story of it all. It's just what I need on any given day.
ABBA - Benny, Bjorn, Annifrid, and Agnetha... The perfect quartet and the absolute perfection of '70s evro-disco music. The ABBA sound is unique and has never been duplicated. I love it for all that it is—story, song, pain, love, romance, break up.
Rainy days - see prior blogs on this subject.
Smoking - Even though I quit eight years ago, nothing will ever beat a good cigarette in the AM, PM, with coffee, beer, after dinner, at the lake, on the sound, by the bay, at the club, on Highways 80, 5, 101, 40, 66, 395. You get the picture! There is no better frenemy than you, Winston 100s box!
Round Table Pizza - If you don't have one where you live, too bad! Ha ha! They are my favorite! Sorry, gay '90s Bella Napoli, Mr. Mikes. And even you Melo's. The Round Table will always have a faithful knight: ME!
Other honorable mentions that are never old or posse: out of date or other insulting term. Genius lies in the following: Beavis and Butthead, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Bugs Bunny, Glastron ski boots, Malgaraja vests, Connolly skis, Ford Broncos, Megadeth, Duran Duran, Oldsmobile Cutlass 442s, Tawnya Robers in The Beastmaster, Russel Crowe as Jack Aubrey, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Star Trek, WALL-E, In and Out's 4x4 Animal Style, Togo's #9, Dragonlance, East of Eden, nude sunbathing, mid '80s Honda dirtbikes, Charles Bukowski, my Aunt Lorene's pasties with ketchup, my Grandma Gerts rhubarb pie and her rutebagas, my dad's slide collection (kodachrome—not playground equipment), Joni Cuervo...
You get the idea. This could go one a bit more, but when I look back at life and think, yeah, that was the shit!, it's usually something mentioned above.
So then, get that noggin clear and think. Yes! Turn off the phone, put down the corporate glass of Kool-Aid, tune out the world and THINK of what really matters deep down in that beating heat of yours.
Mmm, donuts!
