Uncommon Sense
Hey, here is some of my thoughts on this subject.
Bravery is defined as or ready to face disgrace or pain. Courage is the ability to disregard fear. Look at anyone who has been in a fight has known fear and anyone who says they haven't is either a liar or insane. No one wants to get hit and no one wants to get hurt, but sometimes you don't have a choice. Everyone should know some form of self-defense and everyone should make sure that their children learn something at an early age. To do anything else is just ignoring reality. This is not a peaceful world we live in and we are not a peaceful species, at least not at this point in our history.
Also, there is no way to be certain that others will take up the mantle of protector. See to yourselves and your families. That way, you don't have to depend on others.
Now that's said, let us talk about heroes. I believe a hero is someone who is willing to risk themselves for others. This doesn't necessarily mean that the situation has to involve a fight. But it has to be dangerous in some way. I'll tell you something else: I believe that every one of us has the strength to be a hero. All it takes is the right situation to come up and the comic books won't have anything on any of us.
Take care of yourselves. Peace. :)

Redemption
I look into the water
as the breeze caresses my skin
The birds sing of my contentment
and the sun is life in the meadow
My heart rejoices boundlessly
with Mother Nature as my lover
A dream I hope to share
this moment is my redemption
Search
Reality, twisted or straightforward
is life's main concern
but what you get out of it
is hidden in what you learn
Only your eyes can see the truth
that's stored within your heart
a constant and painful journey
that tears the strongest of us apart
We heal and then continue on
the phoenix arising anew
a search to find out who we are
the path most of us fear to choose
A couple of my original poems. I hope you like them. Peace. :)
