American Rebels
Midnight screams of the crazies
Blood spattered all up the wall,
Remind the American rebels
How far and how fast they will fall.
They shave the hair straight off your head
And yank the jewelry right out of your face,
If they could they'd take your tattoos
Just to put back into your place.
The jury found you guilty
And the judge sentenced you to life,
Severed so quick from reality
As if done with a surgical knife.
The friends that once shared your bottle
And the women that once shared your bed,
In a flash your name is forgotten
Almost as if you were dead.
So rise American rebels
And lace your boots up tight,
If you haven't already there's no time like today
My friend you must learn how to fight.
You may have to fight off the predators
You may have to fight for your meal
But the worst of these fights goes on in your head
And determines just how you will feel.
How will you feel when your son starts driving?
Or when your daughter has her first kid?
Will you wonder what the hell you were thinking?
Or why you did what you did?
These thoughts you will find in the morning
And most will last through the day,
On and on late into the evening
In your dreams you can't get away.
You listen to the tales of the elders
Not believing a word that they say
In your youth you wanted adventure
Now the rest of your life you will pay.
Somehow you must conquer your demons
Believe me that will take some time,
Some way to spend endless hours
A curve within the design.
The midnight screams of the crazies
Blood spattered all up the wall,
Remind the American rebels
How far and how fast they will fall.
