Black History Month 1-30-2013
Every day is Black History Month to me. I learn something new about my roots daily.
I'm going to share with you a couple of deeds my favorite former "Black Leaders" accomplished while here on earth. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. born January 15th 1929 in Atlanta, GA. Known for leading the civil rights movement in the United States. Advocating nonviolent protest against segregation and racial discrimination. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He wanted quality and education for all people in the U.S.A. He fought for all mankind to come together and be treated equal. Blacks, whites, Hispanics etc. January 20th 1986 was the first national celebration of MLK's holiday and it goes on each year. He was a vegetarian. He achieved so many great (deeds) while here on earth. At the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, he was assassinated on April 4th 1968 by (gunshot). His death still remains unsolved to this day.
Rosa Parks, another civil rights leader, she was a member of the NAACP when she refused to give up her seat in the (color section) of the bus to a white passenger in Montgomery, Ala. on December 1, 1955. Her brave deed resulted in a local boycott that became the catalyst for a national effort to end segregation on public transportation. I admired her strong will power.
Harriet Tubman, slave/civil rights activist, born 1820 or 1821 in Dorchester Country, Maryland. Religion Christian, Nationality (American), children Gertie (adopted). Spouses John Tubman (MA) 1844-1851, Nelson Davies 1869-1913. Harriet Tubman, known as Lady Moses, she guided (slaves) to freedom on the Underground Railroad and worked as a spy for the Union Army during the Civil War. She wanted her people free from bondage. She realized it was a better way of living for them. And, she was determined for them and herself to have it. Cause of death: pneumonia. Died March 10, 1913 (aged 93). Harriet Tubman was my favorite slave (leader). She was very strong and bold in her movement on earth. These three "former slave leaders" paved the way for us blacks here on earth today. Without them and tons of others we couldn't made it this far. And, today we still have people carrying their "LEGACY" on like Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev Jesse Jackson Sr. They still do the marches, and rallies here in Washington DC. When injustice is performed here in our country (America). The last one I remember was when they executed the Death Row inmate Troy Davis on September 21st 2011 in a Georgia facility. They said he killed a (police officer) but the evidence was never discovered. So in my "eyes" they killed an innocent man. President Barack H. Obama is in office for his second term, it started January 20th 2013. That was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "I HAVE A DREAM" speech August 28th 1963, it came true. I just wish he was here to see it, now.
To all my people in the struggle, continue to survive, never give up!
