Shawn~ I am glad to see that you are changing your life!! I know all to well the life you lived. You have been in my thoughts over the last 20 years. I am just glad that you are doing well and looking at life in a different manner!
This ia a very powerful statement and I do agree that there needs to be more for prisoners that are elderly. It seems here in Ct they are thinking of opening an priosn for just the elderly..as I feel that this should be done across the board for all prison systems in any state.
I am surprised that I am even commenting on this and wondering if this is the same Shawn Fisher that I knew many years ago prior to his coviction. If it is the same Shawn Fisher that I went to school w/many years ago then I am glad to see that he is doing well. I look forward to reading more of his articles.
You ask if people can change and the answer is of course they can. They do all the time. And of course violent offenders change. So can non-violent offenders.
I've seen it happen many times :).
I think most people deserve second chances - and of course they get them. The problem is that they bring their 'self' back to the second chance. And change is hard. It's hard for everyone. That's why I gave the advice to go slow and get support. It's important.
As for making up for what someone did....I don't know that it's possible, either. You can't change the past, of course, so in the end there is no perfect way to 'fix' anything.
Sometimes, I've seen ex-offenders apologize for what they did and it helps. Sometimes, the victim is too angry to hear the apology. It depends.
Mostly, the best thing that you can do is to be a good person and try to help people: the folks you love and the folks that you bring into your life.
the 26th of October was a very sad day, as he didn't become free. He only had 2 votes in his favor... and he needs the half of the members who vote; that is thus 7. At least 2 have a heart. They all know(men and women are the judges)how many years that man has been in jail!.... How he was correct in any way. How he stays healthy doing sport and keeping updated by reading books, newspaper, following the news, playing chess with people outward, all he possibly can do!! Besides that, he writes letters in defending palls, or obtaining an earlier release for friends there. Now he lately saw that the vending machine companies don't pay the fair deal to the jails. He sees now what might happen after he wrote about that issue.
George thought this time he would be released as they let go older inmates. Not!! He anticipated so many things he would face in the outer world. That was really challenging and he got the idea for once he could do something independent, as this is his main frustration! He figured it all out, one thing after the other, for that day!.......
:-((( We were tremendously sad, Kelly. My personal letter was read in the beginning of the PB. I know 'next year'I will play it real hard!!! My letter will be shocking/rocking their consciousness- if they have one!?- and go right to their inhumane souls. Do they have suns? Is all in life about vengeance? I s there a place for forgiveness? Can they live with the thought they didn't give a chance to a rightfull man? Will they drive home soon that day and sleep with the idea that some day they will regret to not to give their pro- vote? Did'nt they consider the harsh life from this man, and see his efforts? Did they even looked at it and take note of it? They have the responsability to judge and can they say; I did the right thing? They have the future life from him and me in their hands and are they just? Once older, just as us now... , won't they have to live with the great regret, not to have given us a chance to be happy?! I've to waken them with my letter! That is all I can do. Fight for it with words. I also will thank the 2 people who had hearts and a decent sense of humanity.
When your time is there, Kelly we know what we're talking about. And we will help you as good as we can. Certainly George.... but one thing is for sure, the 2 of us will make it together one day out there!
No, Little Pilgrim, I live in Antwerp, Deurne.
I am not anymore on Facebook, nor anything else. I just don't have the time to do so. I don't like to be too long on internet.
While I read this email I send you my very late!!! great birthday wishes!! I hope you did do something special, Kelly? Did your good friends remember and made a little party or so?? Did some B-cards came to you? I should have send you a special card... well, it might be in a letter, ok? ;-)
Friends make our world, isn't it?
Here a joke for your 'happening'. Un unknown man who let me pass at the bank, told me. :-)
Adam and Eve were walking in the Garden of Eden and along the way she asks: "Adam do you still love me?" Then he answers: "Who else"?
Well one is none, here goes another.
The inspector doesn't stop asking difficult questions. He ends with: "Is there somebody who likes to ask something more?" "Yes, eh....when does your bus leave, sir?" one of the boys asks. :-)
And a 3rd.
Smart -My dog is very smart. Each morning he picks up the newspaper. -Mine does it as well, but I'd like him not to be so smart. -Why? -Because he always brings it with a lot of delay. He puts him regularly on a bench in the park to read it himself at first.
In what color your 'room' is painted, Kelly? In some jails they call them that way... Of course it's always a cell. :-( Could you buy the paint then?
I wish I would paint again. But for that I need 'relaxing' time, and my days are filled with things to do! 100 of things. I have to do it all by myself? This and that, .... Wish I could share it with George. :-))) He suffers to be on his own, I do, and we are meant to be together. If he weren't that long in jail, I never would have met hem, and now that I did, he is there all along. Life can be so unfair.
Kelly, is Pam one of your youth friends before you were in jail? Nice to have true and loyal friends!
I lke to hear you have a job. Too bad for that person... Your photo and the quilt stay here in a blue round vase, among my shells. In the living room, for everybody to be seen! ;-)) They like your face. -smile-
I send you good energy, and when I do reiki (I obtained my two first grades in Buenos Aires) and send it, you are among the people where I send it to.
Good Luck w/your future.
Sincerely
Dawn Booth-Jolley
