Hey, everyone. I want to ask a question. How old were you when you started thinking about sex?

I was right around 12 years old, and the first person I was attracted to was a best friend, a 12-year-old boy. Is this the age for the rest of you? I may not be normal due to the fact that my step-father started molesting me when I was four. However, I don't think that is what started my interest or my preference. To be honest, the abuse I suffered screwed me up in totally weird ways. For the longest part of my life, I wouldn't allow my lovers to get me off. I actually blocked what was going on from my mind until I was like 20 sometime. My sexual awakening was at the same time I started puberty.

Now I have a question of maturity or the exact time reaching adulthood. Less than 100 years ago, a person was considered an adult at 13, old enough to marry and start a family. But now you're not considered a complete adult until 21. All species of animals are considered to reach adulthood when they are old enough to breed. After all, that's the way of nature. But once again, we humans know better than nature and we try to change the rules.

If I'm not mistaken, the idea of adulthood changed drastically in the late '50s or early '60s, and it makes me wonder: when did our society start warping into the insanely violent monster it is now? When did the percentage of teenage drug abuse start to escalate? When did teenage suicides start to rise? When did teachers start to lose control of schools? And when did teenage pregnancies start to rise? Is there a connection? I think there is. When did kids start killing kids, and when did neighborhoods start becoming dangerous?

You know what's so great about making a mistake, even a huge one? You can always fix it. It's never too late. Just something for you to think about.
