Survive

Survive

Will I survive?
My heart has become empty
like the stomach of a nino de las calles.
A starved dog
being kicked by a heavy black boot.
An overworked ass
whose back has sunked with burden.
The sad eye of a clown
who cannot be cheered by life.
Who can I run to for comfort?
Everyone around stand with their arms crossed
I should just roam the hallways
like a rejected spirit.
Like an orb of light only seen in pictures
Pictures
depicting dark places, dungeons, tunnels abandoned
buildings and cemeteries.
I am light
but one that's unwelcome
like the sun by vampires.
I've become a myth
inside the minds of the m????? I could reach.
They listen
but place my image on the back burner
Following, imitating their own desires.
I am vanishing slowly from this earth
like a Polar Bear.
No one seems to care.
So in this cold cell, when the lights are dead
I ask myself
Will I survive?

Hola Jesus!

I transcribed your poetry “Survive” on “between the bars” website.
I had already transcribed a poetry of yours entitled “Sonrie” a few months back. In fact I read your thank you message, you are welcome, it is a pleasure for me to transcribe and comment poetries.
I am Italian and live in Italy and like poetries.

The poetry “Survive” was sad but I appreciated how you can express your sadness with appropriated comparisons. It was excellent the second verse of your poetry, where you smartly mix two languages (English and Spanish):
“My heart has become empty like the stomach of a nino de las calles”.

I imagine how difficult it is to live in a cold cell “when the lights are dead”.

It is a good poetry. Well done!

I am sorry if my English is not perfect, as you know it is difficult for an Italian to speak English properly.

I will try to transcribe and comment other poetries of yours.

Saludos de Italia.
Alberto

Hola Jesus,

"I am light
but one that's unwelcome"

I thought these two lines were especially powerful.

Also, you have really beautiful handwriting. Is that something you have practiced, or have you just always had nice handwriting?

Best wishes,
VB in Massachusetts

Hola Jesus,
I am happy to hear that you appreciate my feed back. I will transcribe your poems again as soon as possible.
I live in Italy and as you said it is a very nice country, we have most world monument protected by UNESCO.
I am glad to hear that you are reading some interesting book, as you correctly say it may be a way to avoid depression, especially in a prison. It is a good idea to try to find things to keep yourself strong. I will pray for you, I am Catholic.
You made a mistake at the beginng of your letter, you called me Antonio, but my name is Alberto and nickname italianguy.
Best greetings and wishes.
Alberto
