Subject: Terrance "Butter" Williams, Phase II

The countdown has begin for that long dark walk. The walls echoing: "Dead Man Walking!!! Dead Man Walking!!!" The long corridor sounding so hollow, as he can hear each footstep of his escorts marching him to the "Death Chamber." Can you picture this? Maybe it would help you understand that this thing is for real. Terrance "Butter" Williams death warrant was signed on the 8th of August. I stopped by to see if there was something I could do, but I knew that there was nothing. All he wanted was his family & friends around so he could say goodbye. His somber demeanor masked the true horror of what he really must've been feeling. He holds onto the HOPE that a last minute reprieve will come his way to save the day like they do in the movies, but this isn't a movie. This is the reality we suffer. They're going to strap him down to a table, put him on display, offer him a final word, then push the button that'll start the pumps injecting him with that lethal cocktail until he is dead. "It's the humane way to go," they'll say as his body violently convulse attempting to reject the poison being forced upon him. Is this really Humane? Who cares right! "An eye for an eye!!!" "Murder for a murder!!!"

I fail to see how the death penalty can be any form of deterrent or an acceptable punishment for any crime. I'm thankful that I live in a country where a man has not been committed to death since the 1950s. A reasonable comparison would be smacking a child & saying 'don't hit people' what does that conflicting information do to our minds!? Legalising murder; committing someone to death is nothing more than madness. Every life has value, yet this is not the message that is conveyed under this form of 'punishment'.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for writing! I finished the transcription for your post. I'm so sorry about your friend Butter. I have such a difficult time understanding executions... it doesn't seem just or moral.
