Hello friends,

I'm excited about the essay that I'm working on regarding bridging the gap - or "Building a Bridge Across the Digital Divide".

Rather than become discouraged by my lack of access to current date - I've scrapped my original thesis and now hope to [?] just enough to spark a national debate on the issue.

It's not important to me that I receive a byline - I would prefer that a student with a "need for a topic" comes across the info that I will try to lay out and then picks up the ball and runs with it.

700,00 inmates a year will be attempting to re-enter a society from which they have been "locked out": not "linkedin". They will be attempting to re-enter a society where "networks of friends" have built "virtual bonds" and alternate realities - a society that sees the average internet use sending or receiving 400 texts (messages) a month, while many teens average over 3,500 a month, the same "teen" that may have sent them 3 letters in 5 years.

They'll find family and friends who have a new "family of friends" on Facebook or [?] or "Linkedin" or "MySpace" "Pinterest" [?], [?] or Luluvise, A virtual world from which they've been excluded, and a society from which they feel locked out - they might even want to fight someone who says "Skype me!" :D

Well - I'd like to continue this little "chat" :D But I have an essay to work on. :D

By the way - the artwork on the front was done by my good friend and brother in Christ Robert D Brown III - he never ceases to amaze me...we'll discuss an idea (or he'll look at my stick figures and [?] sketches :D) and come back later with a "piece of my mind" captured on a page and say; "you mean something like this" :D [?]

Remember that name! Robert D Brown III my partner in what will be called "Labor of Love Greeting Cards" a 501(c)3 which will attempt to express "snapshots of grace" glorify God and [?] the Body of Christ.

The Next Time.

May the [?] of the meadow
With its songs of silver streams
Bring sunlight to the paths you walk
Ad magic to your dreams - (Anonymous)

Hi Gary, thanks for your blog. You raise a really interesting and important issue that I hadn't considered before. Things move so quickly these days - I am 27 and started using the internet in 1999 and I forget that that span of 12 years or so could make up an entire sentence for a prisoner. I am now entirely used to using the internet etc but it's a relatively short time since it was "the norm". I wish you luck in your project.

Your friend's artwork is really amazing, wow!
