Our justice system is hideously flawed. I understand wanting to hold those who break the law accountable, but this needs to be in a proportional manner and this is where the breakdown happens. The prison system has become a revolving door for inmates because we as a society have made it almost impossible for ex-prisoners to rejoin the community in a normal way and with dignity.

The fact that there is a chance that one of those 5,400 people could be innocent should alter the trajectory and no one should be sentenced to death.

Thank you for giving this issue a voice and keep your head up. I know it's a lot easier for me to say that as I'm not in your situation, but I really hope you can. Humans are capable of growth, change, love, and forgiveness...and this human is rooting for you.

Stay as safe as you can as well during this pandemic.

Hello! I finished the transcription for your post. This was a beautiful poem, I enjoyed reading it! I loved the ABBC rhyme scheme. Each stanza showed a new side and felt emotion of the autumn season, which was really entrancing. Thanks for writing!

Hi Charles, Kye McKissock here from UK England, I saw your story a while back on the Netflix documentary: I am a killer!
I feel very sorry you got the death sentence, in my opinion, you should've been free and the medical staff should've got death, not you, because like you said, the shooting didn't kill your ex-girlfriend: Denise Hayslip, the hospital did it, so I am very sorry you are on death row, I wish you all the best and hope one day you are free from death row and jail altogether, you seem all around a good guy and just like me, it seems, you're not a violent person, unless necessary and that you will only kill if you have to or if to protect those close!
I hope one day you get released from death row and jail altogether and can live a normal life again, hopefully with a steady job and a wife and kids!
Nice to talk to you, Happy New Year my friend!
Hope you write back soon!
Thank you!

I appreciated the opening scripture this was inspired by. Someone who is in the truth strongly agrees with 1 Samuel 12:24 "Only fear Jehovah, and serve him faithfully (or "in truth") with all your heart, for see what great things he has done for you."

It has been shown time and time again, when we give God our full truth and faith, and rely on Him for guidance and support, He will be there and show it in ways we never knew we needed.

Wonderful piece, hope your relationship with God is always true and continue to grow.

Russ,

when the well runs dry...what then? platitudes won't help and words themselves cannot convey sympathy for loss.

in those times...all we have is hope...the hope of God is everlasting...the sweetest water that can never run dry. Even when it is a tiny ember, threatening to snuff out...hope can still be fanned into a flame.

When things fall apart and you feel like an end has come...one step...hope...is a beginning.

Keep the faith Pfister
