On so many occasions, it seems as if the world is battling us. We even become enemies of ourselves. But all it takes is some encourgement from a fellow human being to surmount these difficulties. Michael, tell your friend that he is absolutely not worthless. I can attest to the happiness he is giving me, being able to talk to you and him through Between the Bars. That's at least one person to whom he has done infinite good; for loving others and bringing them happiness is a commitment to universals which are infinte. The standards of society on things like bodily appearance are subjective. Calling your friend ugly holds as much merit as declaring banana milk to be the best drink in existence. If you can convince your friend to believe himself normal, then, by virtue of believing it, he is holding a true belief. There's no "right" or "wrong" answer on questions of appearance. Tell him that he does not deserve his punishment. Every single person ever has made mistakes. As long as we forgive and forget, there should be nothing else tying us to past mistakes. We're always changing, and our identity today is different tomorrow. It's upsetting that society perpetuates the pain for some. I at least forgive him, and that's enough to erase the shame. Thanks so much for posting this, Michael! Keep us updated!

Hi there Daniel :)

I know its been a while since I have written to you but its been a very hectic last few weeks and some not so good days.

First off, thank you for writing me back, I have told my man about you ans he has no problem with me writing you, you see, we trust each other completely and we both know the consequences if the other strays, so we are good, yes?

I will say you made me smile when asking if I can break a brick with my hands and to answer your question, yes I can :) but I mainly do the sport as an act of self discipline and peace.I dont know exactly how to explain it but when I practice I feel at peace with the world and myself, strange, dont you think?

I will tell you a secret though, I have had a few broken ribs, a few cracked ribs and a broken arm a few times when doing tournaments,
but I will never give up karate, its just become a way of life for me now.

Oh, before I forget I must let you know that my husband is in prison in Alabama and I am currently living in South Africa. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask, ok?

Do you have an address where I can write you?

So, as we begin a new friendship, why dont you tell me about yourself and I will do the same.

Until I here from you, stay strong and know that you are in my thoughts.

Alexandra

Grr. I don't want to grow up. I'm going to be 15! Dad is already having me drive the truck around the field so yay :) At home it's been better. or at least the last week. Mickie has been at TSS all week. she should be coming home tonight or tomorrow. I can't exactly tell you how it went because I don't know. She seems to be enemies with everyone in her grade but thats understandable. She could always be the "bigger person" and have a great experience.
I have been writing stories sense 6th grade. I never told you this because I wasn't really sure that you would care. Mom gets mad whenever I write a story and have her proof read it. It's understandable though. I never finish it because I get ahead of myself. I would be writing on my second page and already I'm eager to just write the end. My teacher yells at me whenever I write backwards. I think it's funny to confuse her. I really hope that you're well. I'm sure that when(if) you get out that you will be busy with things to do. I hope to see you in the future. I can't believe I'm going to be 15. Gosh I feel old. Well, Boo bye :)

Sincerely,
Ellie
