DERELICTION OF DUTY
I can't deny that her Black is beautiful,
but wonder why it has a European flair?
Why is it judged by European standards,
and billions are spent to get European hair?
If I knew no better
I'd swear God made a mistake:
he wasn't supposed to make our skin Black,
our lips full, and hair happily nappy instead of str8.
When a sista celebrates her opposite,
doesn't she make an inferior intimation?
But how could I blame da sista when her brotha
rejects da original for the imitation?
Maybe its not about race
and I need to appreciate da different fashions and beauty?
But when Black children have a white bias
I consider that a dereliction of duty.
We accept everyone but ourselves
so our subjugation has a sense of permanence.
Tell me how many Jewish children
you can find w/a bias towards Germans?
And if you could find those children,
do you think the Jews would accept it?
Da way they honor those lost in their holocaust
I think they'd feel disrespected.
Da tendency to ignore or allow
our history to be distorted is still prevalent,
a new millennium but da results of a doll study
conducted in da 40's are still relevant.
Not knowing your history
is like looking in da mirror and seeing no reflection.
Or planning a long and difficult trip
w/o any sense of direction.
You'll have no awareness
to counteract society's subliminal messages
and will end up honoring those who didn't
recognize your humanity like da Thomas Jefferson's.
Images place in our minds define
and corporations pay millions for seconds.
Do you think they'd do so
w/o a return on their investments?
Victory is assured if you destroy
your opponents will to resist in advance,
and w/o knowledge of self in this racist society,
our children never have a chance!
