Along For The Ride

Along For The Ride

Imagine that you had a friend
Who was always there at your side
To comfort and to lift you up
Whenever you were tired

If you knew he was the godly sort
Who couldn't stand to witness sin
Would it have made you think twice
Before you drank that shot of gin?

If he were there as a witness
Every time that you had lied
Or got involved in conflict
Because of jealousy or pride

Would it make you feel uncomfortable
If he watched you as you did dirt?
Or would you try to put aside
Those things that you knew caused him hurt?

Would you try to find time alone
So you wouldn't feel the shame?
When you did those things that would have shown
That you still played the devil's game

Well, think of this the next time
That you try to sin and hide
The spirit of the living God
Is always there inside.

When you sin, you invite him in
To go along for the ride
To witness all those things you do
For when He was crucified

How do you think it makes Him feel
When He sees through your disguise?
And His wounds are reopened
By the tears that fill His eyes?

You lie only to yourself
And the truth can't be denied
Every time you sin, my friend,
You quench the spirit inside!

So think twice, my brother,
Before you next decide
Remember the Holy Spirit
That you take along for the ride.
