Not Just Another Bump on a Blog :D
Tues. 7/31
I was thinking of what a blessing it is to be able to use this forum—this opportunity through M.I.T.'s blogging project to share ideas.
I was reminded of something I used to stress to my students as an instructor in Century's G.E.D. program. Basically, words are building blocks for sentences (duh! :D). Sentences are the building blocks of paragraphs. Put another way, words are building blocks of thoughts and thoughts are the building blocks of ideas.
So, taking my own advice :D, let me reword my initial sentence. :D In order to share ideas, I have to being with at least two thoughts that I can rub together. :D
That little riff gave me an idea. Eureka! It's working! :D
My word→sentence→paragraph or word→thought→idea, theme. Came about in a discussion on how to prepare for the G.E.D. essay. I explained how the word essay actually comes from a French word which means to "try" or "attempt". It was first coined, I believe, by Moliere who popularized the expression back in the 1600s.
Today, of course, (at least according to the requirements for a G.E.D. essay) it is an attempt to express an opinion or point of view. As trivial as that may sound, it was important for me to help them understand that an essay was not just a collection of 200 words. :D My point? LOL
I think that rather than President Obama and Willard Romney spending almost $2 billion on a campaign (a collection of skirmishes), they should both just write and submit a 200 word essay entitled "Why I Should be President." Send it out over the Internet and have people vote: like or dislike. :D
Wait, that wouldn't work. Even if their essays didn't blow smoke up the assumption of the likes :D, we would have to wonder if some likers voted more than once or some dislikes voted more than twice? Hmm?! Oh well, we might as well stick to the current system. At least that way, we're guaranteed to have the best president that money can buy. :D

I found it interesting to read what you had to say about the election process there in the U.S. That is an OBSCENE amount of money to spend on an election campaign. I have also had a similar discussion with my daughter before about the voting process. Here in Australia voting is compulsory, if you don't vote, you get fined. I think at some stage they will have to introduce on-line voting for the tech-savy Gen Ys who are too busy to line up for a polling booth. Your idea is awesome! the way to make it work is to have everyone registered with a password that can only be used once.
Don't stop revolutionising the world with your ideas! :D
The last line of your post made me smile. Sadly though it's more true than funny.
Thanks for your post!
