A lot has been going on around here, and I really don't know where to begin. The prison has been abuzz with people flying in & out all day every day for the past few weeks. The pending execution of Terrance Williams has everyone on edge. No one seems to know what they're doing, or how to handle (administratively or emotionally) being so close to an involuntary execution. It's really happening, people! No decision has been made yet. He's having that hearing today, so there's still a chance he could be spared. But it's an election year, and the Republicans want their "brownie points" for being tough on crime. I can't believe that some people are actually excited about executing another human being. It's just not right!

As he was being escorted to some preliminary interviews there was an unusual procession of guards escorting him with a video camera in tow recording any sudden movements. It was so official, like they were carrying him off to the death table.

I've always thought that capital punishment was only supposed to be reserved for the "worst-of-the-worst", but as I check its list of victims ensnared, I can only see a handful of what could be considered that. Do they even know what it means anymore or what the DP represents?? When did they lose their objectivity & rationale, trading it for petty vindictiveness & political grandstanding??

Well, he has a hearing today that'll determine whether he lives or dies. I don't know how long it will take for them to come to a decision, but I pray it's to save his life!!!!!!!!!!

I agree! It's NOT right! EVERY human life is valuable and we all have an obligation to help and support each other through this life. No one has the right to end a life and what sort of message does it send, when that is the punishment for those who do.

The death penalty is an archaic practice that has NO place in a modern world, particularly not a first world country like the USA. I'm thankful that I live in a country that has not supported state sanctioned killing for many decades.

I watched an interview recently between US defense attorney Bryan Stevenson and Richard Branson (of the Virgin empire) and they discussed how those caught up on death row are mostly the poor, simply unable to afford adequate legal representation. They actually said it was "better to be rich and guilty than poor and innocent in the USA". This is atrocious! And needs to change!! They also stated that "1 out of every 9 on death row are ultimately found innocent & if one in every 9 patients died under anesthetic we would stop using it... or if 1 out of every 9 planes went down, we wouldn't fly". It's the legal system that is broken and whether innocent or no... none of us have the right to take the life of another under ANY circumstances!

I wish you both well. Take care

Nicki
