Hi Marcus:

#8 - depends on your needs re: gaming, etc. A good middle road desktop or laptop with acceleration for graphics & wireless -
500.00 (or less if bought as a loss leader product from an electronics store). example is a nat'l chain selling a toshiba laptop under $400 and throwing in an hp all in one wireless printer. The printer even comes with 2 ink cartridges (which exceed the cost of the printer in some cases).

Hi Marcus,

That's quite a variety of questions! I did my best with some that I knew could be googled simply:

3) Health risks associated with soy:

Soy allergy (common)
Can trigger food intolerance
May be a risk factor towards breast cancer
May affect the brain's recovery from injury
May contribute towards gout.

Is this a personal question? :D I think you're probably OK. :)

4) The Playstation 2 was first released on March 4, 2000, in Japan, October 26, 2000 in North America, and November 24, 2000 in Europe. My brother wouldn't let me play with his.

5) Madison: 233,209
Lake Geneva: 7,651
Chicago: 2,707,120
New York: 8,244,910
LA: 3,792,621

10) The most popular social networking site is Facebook. Twitter is also very popular.

Hope this is helpful/accurate!

Hi Scot,

I'm so sorry for taking so long to reply to you - I've just been so busy with work etc that I'm afraid I haven't wanted to check in to BTB only to rush my replies.

I'm glad you liked the snatch of poetry. It's from Invictus by William Ernest Henley. What I get from that particular section is that even if you can't escape physical punishment, you can still be the owner or your own self, which no one can ever really take. (The poet was very ill as a child and disabled as an adult which must have been hard in Victorian times. His experiences were what inspired his work.)

Don't quit!

Hi Jeremy,

SO sorry I have just seen this and not replied before. I did have a very nice Christmas, thank you. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your words, and anyone on BTB who enters into a conversation - it's not just one way on this site! It really makes the day feel more important when you know you can talk to someone on the other side of the world with such different life experiences and (sometimes) opinions. Anyway, just thought I would express my appreciation again. Keep writing!

All the best,

Elizabeth-Anne.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your message. I'm so sorry I haven't replied till now - my brain has been eaten by work and all I could think of during January was accountancy. Now THAT'S tragic. I really hope this still gets to you.

I think The Hunger Games definitely has things to say about American society - we Brits do everything in a small scale, at least these days we do, so sometimes the American way of doing things can seem like a modern day empire to us.

You make a good point about the army/war on terror. I find the way the killing of young people (both ours and those on the other side) is idolised as something heroic to be really troubling. There was an army join-up event in town recently and I saw a soldier letting a little boy of about 8 or 9 climb into a tank. The boy was laughing all the way, it was quite an image.

Best wishes,
Elizabeth-Anne

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply - I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to send another message to you; it's been very busy for me lately.

Actually apparently global warming means the UK will get colder and wetter. Typical.

Quilt would be quite an old fashioned word here! I don't think we use comforter at all.

To be honest, I don't have any nicknames, they remind me of when I was a child which is a bit awkward when you're 28. :D But you can call me something else if you want. ;)

I don't watch Downton but I do love Doctor Who. I used to watch Last of the Summer Wine when I was a kid!

When My Ding a Ling was performed on UK TV they had an artist drawing behind him to illustrate very clearly that the song had NOTHING to do with anything naughty but was in fact a stick with bells on. Obviously.

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply! Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I only used the example of Nazi Germany because this was something you mentioned in your original post. You can replace it with Mao or Stalin if you wish. :D I agree that it is strange that we consider Hitler's crimes to be so much worse than those of other governments.

I am not American (British) but I think in the years to come America will go through the same things my country did 60 or so years ago, and realise they are not the most important world power. I think it will be a difficult cultural change, the effects of which are being felt already in the paranoia of some. Personally I don't believe this is because of God, unless you believe God prefers China to be more powerful? Perhaps He does!

Best wishes,

Elizabeth-Anne
